Everything You Need to Know About Walt Disney World’s Genie, Genie+, and Individual Attraction Selections

If you decide to take it up a notch, which we highly recommend, Disney Genie+ includes the free service but with amazing extras. Think of Genie+ as a suped-up Fast Pass system. Starting at $15 per ticket per day, you have access to use the former Fast Pass (now Lightning Lane) queues to skip ahead to the front of the lines. The standard Genie+ price now varies depending on the day you visit the park. You will find today’s price in your MDE app.

Frequent Walt Disney World visitors and even newbies might remember the not-so-long-ago days of Fast Passes. In the time since fast passes were discontinued, Disney has introduced a series of other options instead.

Between Disney Genie, Genie+, and Individual Attraction Selections you may find yourself dizzy. Luckily we’ve got you covered with some easy ways to differentiate these options. Plus, snagging a travel agent like Casey Davis at Park & Palm Travel can ensure that your next Disney vacation is nothing short of magical–like your own personal pixie dust maker!

If you’re a thrill seeker, check out Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on your next vacation. With some high wait times, you can opt to utilize Disney Genie+ and skip the line at this attraction!
You will find Disney’s Genie benefits in the My Disney Experience app. Be sure to download the latest version before your next Disney World vacay!

Disney Genie

Think of Disney Genie as your free, personalized concierge service. Any guest with valid park tickets has access to this via the My Disney Experience app (MDE). With Disney Genie you can create a personalized daily itinerary, access a tip board, check-out wait times, create mobile orders, see virtual queues and so much more.

Essentially, Disney Genie is now the face of your MDE app. Whether you’re planning out your day via the planning function or mobile ordering corn dogs from Casey’s Corner, Disney Genie brings the ease we all need in a Disney vacation.

Disney Genie+

f you decide to take it up a notch, which we highly recommend, Disney Genie+ includes the free service but with amazing extras. The big difference is that you can use many more than just three skip-the-line options which was the limit with the former system. Across all four parks, there are 40 attractions with Lightning Lane options that can be done once per attraction per day. Disney suggests that most folks can manage to skip lines at two to four attractions in a day, but with some planning you can skip a whole lot more.

When you purchase Disney Genie+ for your Hollywood Studios park day, be sure to skip the line at the famous Hollywood Tower of Terror.

My big recommendation? Do some digging before utilizing the Lightning Lane at just any attraction. For something like It’s Tough to Be a Bug in Animal Kingdom, which often has no wait or less than ten minutes, it doesn’t make sense to use a Lightning Lane pass. If an attraction frequently has 20 minutes or less as a wait time (oftentimes a walk-on), keep your passes for more popular attractions.

Individual Attraction Selections/Lightning Lane

Skip the lines at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom when you purchase the Individual Attraction Selection

For the most popular one to two rides in each park which have 60+ minute wait times, Walt Disney World has created the Individual Attraction Selections (IAS) options. These are rides that aren’t listed on Genie+ and must be purchased separately.

Attraction prices range from $7 to $20 per person. Prices vary based on the date, the park location, and the attraction itself. Keep all of that in mind when making your selections!

Some park goers choose to utilize both the IAS options and Genie+ to double up on their line skipping for park days. This is the best way to make the most of your time at Disney so you can spend more time doing something other than waiting in line.

IAS rides are:

Hollywood Studios: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

EPCOT: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Animal Kingdom: Avatar Flight of Passage

Bottom Line

As an Annual Passholder, my WDW trips are either planned down to the minute or filled with spontaneity. Either way, I am not very patient. Lines are not my favorite part of visiting the parks. But everyone’s situations are different!
If you plan your park days out, it is possible to have a magical time at any of the four parks without spending half the day waiting in line. Rope dropping (getting to the park before it opens or right as it opens) is one way to race onto some of the most popular rides the fastest for free–though that takes some significant dedication.
Disney is magical no matter what, but with a little extra pixie dust, you can skip the lines at major attractions in the park, making your day even more magical! Reach out to Casey Davis today to get your next vacation started

Disney Genie+ is a cost-effective way to ensure that the whole family can enjoy some of the biggest and best rides Walt Disney World has to offer without waking up at 5:00 am to beat the crowds. And Individual Attraction Selections are a great addition if you’re willing to pay a little extra to skip lines at the most popular attractions at each park!
